January 13th 2012 - Disk drive availability improving on certain models but prices are up The hard disk drive market is still in turmoil. The slip in production caused by the natural disaster in Thailand is impacting availability as products manufactured earlier in 2011 are now sold. In other words the situation is not so much a result of speculation as it was two-three months ago, but more a sign of a genuine shortage and poor availability.
Because of the strong relationship between Western Digital and Hive, we are being looked well after and we have good supply all the way across the product range. The flipside of the coin is a hike in pricing, and some models have seen a 30% increase. We are constantly monitoring the market place and our prices will always be a reflection of what is available to us.
November 4th 2011 - Disk drive situation out of control The floodings in Thailand have shut down 60% of the Western Digital's disk drive production facilities. As Hive is based on Western Digital products only, we are feeling the pain from this natural disaster.
Drive prices are sky rocketing at the moment and all prices quoted on our website are subject to final confirmation. We can only apologise for this but sadly this is due to events out of our control.
July 27th 2011 - Hive in the USA Hive Tech is proud to announce the immediate availability of the Hive product range in North America.
B&H - one of the leading retailers in the professional photography and video market space is now offering Hive products from its New York based Superstore as well as on its website http://www.bhphotovideo.com.
At the same time, Hive has extended its partnership with Kodak in order to provide onsite service on all Hive products in both North America and Canada.
June 7th 2011 - 6TB Hive : desktop and rackmount to go EOL
The 6TB versions of Hive : desktop and Hive : rackmount are going End Of Life with immediate effect. This is due to poor availability on the WD Green Power AV 1.5 TB drive which the 6TB versions are based on. Technical Director Lindsay Edwards commented: 'We have seen some very long lead times for the 1.5TB drive and as a consequence hereoff, some customers had to endure long delays in getting their products. This is not acceptable and the best way forward was to simply stop manufacturing the 6TB versions'. The desktop and rackmount Hives are available in 4TB, 8TB and 12TB versions. In the first quarter of 2012 a 16TB version will be introduced.
February 25th 2011 - 12TB Hives are ready to go
Hive is pleased to announce the availability of Hive : desktop and Hive : rackmount with 12TB capacity. The new versions are both based on the Western Digital Green Power AV drive and will allow for an impressive 9TB net capacity when used in the standard RAID 5 configuration.

May 6th 2010 - Hive family to grow soon
Inspired by the success of Hive, Hive Tech is pleased to announce the upcoming expansion of the product family. This summer two new members of the Hive family will be introduced. The new products will provide an even less expensive point of entry to the world of Hive storage. Two things are certain - the new Hive products are as beautiful and well made as the original 4-bay Hive, and they will be covered by the same unique warranty as the original. With such a compact size, Hive is nearly portable. However, it would not be wise to carry your Hive around without sufficient protection. That is why we have created HiveMobile.
 HiveMobile is a luxury flight case in high quality aluminium, designed from the ground up for Hive. It simply allows you to protect your valuable data when you are on the move. It also turns Hive Into a genuine alternative to old fashioned tape backup, because it allows you to safely move up to 8TB of data around without risk of damage to the media. July 15th 2009 - 6TB Hive is go - at last Because Hive Tech is commited to offering the ultimate storage capacity per watt coupled unsurpassed hard drive reliability, we have synchronized the release of our 6TB Hive with the world wide release of the WD 1.5TB AV Green Power drive. The Western Digital Green Power AV hard disk range offers the perfect balance between performance, power consumption and reliability. The Green Power AV drive is available in different capacities from 500GB and up to 2TB. However the 1.5TB version has been surrounded by quite a lot of uncertainty. At first this drive would not make it into production but due to unpresidented demand by Hive customers, production of the 1.5TB Green Power AV drive has now been given the green light after all, which is great news for customers who need more than 4TB but find 8TB to be too much.
Other 1.5TB drives are available from a variety of different manufacturers but we refuse to let our customers get stung by offering nothing but the best that hard drive market has to offer.
